2010 School of Media Arts: July 3rd – July 30th

Free your imagination and be part of an inspiring adventure in the cutting-edge fields of video, filmmaking, photography, or computer graphic arts in the School of Media Arts held at SUNY Oswego. We will require your intense focus, motivation, and commitment in this program. Your reward will be exciting and challenging classes, work sessions, critiques, lectures, field trips, and presentations by visiting artists.

While the curriculum stresses creative production, it is not exclusively goal-oriented. Exploration, experimentation, and discovery are stressed. The process - an awareness of the avenues of discovery and stimulating detours - is as important as product.

Robert Harris, a nationally known media artist, is the Artistic Director of the School. He has assembled a faculty of outstanding media artists for the program.

Your classes will include an introduction to the specific facilities; a review of fundamentals; an exploration of new techniques and processes; an overview of aesthetics; surveys of contemporary work, trends, and ideas; and extensive production work that emphasizes individual or small group projects. Ongoing critical overview and critique will be directed toward your presentation of a final project.

The program culminates with a final show and screening. All students are strongly encouraged to finish work for display in this show. Photographers and computer artists will display their work on walls and in computer monitor installations. Film and video makers will present their projects in installations and/or a theatrical presentation.

Tuition and Financial Aid

The entire cost of attending the School of Media Arts, including tuition, instruction, room and board is $1,750. NYSSSA's summer programs are open to all New York State students currently enrolled in grades 8 through 12 who qualify through the audition process. Tuition, room, and board costs should not discourage any talented young artist from auditioning. A student who auditions is under no obligation to attend and every effort will be made to allocate suitable financial aid.

We want any talented young artist who is accepted through our audition process, regardless of his or her ability to pay for the school, to be able to attend, so tuition assistance is available. Tuition assistance forms are mailed to students after the audition process. NYSSSA awards financial assistance based upon individual need.
